What is Second Grade Stainless Steel or Second Choise Stainless Steel?
Second grade stainless steel, also called secondary steel, is always produced as first grade steel, but has flaws that reduce its value. Such defects may include physical defects such as scratches, dents, undulations and dimensional tolerances exceeding the allowable ones (width, length, thickness). There may also be discrepancies and deviations in chemical composition. However, second choice stainless steel is not always a product with defects, it happens that this steel gets a price “privilege” and is sold as second grade only because the steelworks producing stainless steel has overproduction of sheets and wants to liquidate them, then such material does not have any visible or chemical defects.

The reasons for declassification may be different – overproduction, non-rotating material, the so-called “storage deckchairs”, minor visual damage, dimension deviating from the standards. Such material is always produced as the first grade, and its declassification takes place over time, therefore it has the right chemical composition and appropriate mechanical properties. As a rule, the second grade stainless steel, for aesthetic reasons, is used in those places that are not visible, although when it comes to overproduction or “storage decks”, they do not differ from the first quality sheets also in terms of appearance, but their price is lower because we buy them in large quantities.

Non-prime products that we offer to our customers generally can be characterized by having negligeable surface or edge defects, arising in the process of transportation or storage. However, in the most cases it is over rolled material that has no defects at all!
